My Client is using Quickbooks. We just upgraded their server by mirroring the old server into a VM which is running on updated hardware. So, technically, everything should be exactly the same. It runs just as the old server did. The links are all the same. However, Quickbooks errors out and says, "Error -6190, -82: QuickBooks was unable to open the file [path\filename] on the host."

Error messages: -6190, -82

Here is the Quickbooks help site with information on this problem. However, following it doesn't fix the issue.

http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/Articles/SLN40829

Anybody out there with knowledge of Quickbooks that can help me, and fast?

try renaming the transaction log to something else then startup Quickbooks.
If that does not work rename the transaction log back to what it was.
Thanks,

That did not work. And I apologize. Another tech is working on this issue. I am relaying the info. The client is not willing to upgrade to 2009 because it will cost him money. (which he just spent on upping his server with us...) He is currently running QB 2007. That site recommends upgrading to 2009 where the problem is fixed.

Regardless, renaming the *.TLG file had no effect, and we received the same error message.

Have you tried this link:

Try method 1 first and see what happens.

Get free NFR key for Veeam Availability Suite 9.5

Veeam is happy to provide a free NFR license (1 year, 2 sockets) to all certified IT Pros. The license allows for the non-production use of Veeam Availability Suite v9.5 in your home lab, without any feature limitations. It works for both VMware and Hyper-V environments

Will doing this fix the problem if only one user access the file? His PC isn't set to host it. Just the server. Nonetheless we will attempt it.

Also,

The error message is -6190, -82. Not -6190, -83. I don't know if that makes TOO much of a difference. Thanks for your quick responses. We'll get to work on trying the QB Diagnostic Tool.

We ran the Diagnostic Tool and we receive a message saying, "The DB service status is not reachable."

Here is something I found. Read at the very bottom. Is this what is causing the issue?

http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/INF12263

Is having created a VM of their existing server screwing the database?

I have a feeling that you might have to reinstall the QB software and see if that works.
Otherwise QB may not work in a virtual server.
Thanks,
Kelly W.

Unfortunately, the only thing that fixed it was to upgrade from 2007 to 2011. However, we started to have the issues again after reinstalling it, but deleting BOTH the *.tlg and *.ng files fixed it that time, so it had a fresh start.
