We're getting ready to upgrade to IIS 7, and we will also be taking the opportunity to upgrade our webservers. Over the years we've accumulated probably hundreds internals sites, and/or webforms. We need to inventory these sites and collect as much info about them as possible before attempting to move them. <br />
<br />
Off the top of my head, things like: Location, URL, framework version, dependencies .e.g if they're pointing to a SQL table or folder, and traffic. I'm sure that in some cases we'll run across sites that are no longer even being used. <br />
<br />
I've never heard of anything like this, but I was wondering if there was some method of doing this from the web server, of if there was a seperate software package available. <br />
<br />
In short, anything to avoid inventorying the sites by hand, and adding the results to a spreadsheet. <br />

Website Inventory Reporting Software - Does Such a Thing Exist?

A web server refers to the software that helps to deliver web content that can be accessed either through the Internet or through an intranet. The primary function of a web server is to store, process and deliver web pages to clients. The communication between client and server takes place using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). The most common use of web servers is to host websites, but there are other uses such as gaming, data storage, running enterprise applications, handling email, FTP, etc.

Web Servers

IIS is Internet Information Services, the web server included with Windows Server operating systems. All current versions are built on a modular architecture; modules can be added or removed individually so that those required for specific functionality are installed. The full installation of IIS includes HTTP, security, content, compression, caching, logging and diagnostics.
