Can anyone help me with this. I need the recent files, documents, places to show up when a user moves the mouse over these areas, like Word, Outlook etc. Was there a setting I missed or could have been disabled somewhere

Right-click on the Windows icon in the bottom left corner > Properties > Start Menu tab.

Is Store and display recently opened items in the Start Menu and the taskbar checked?

For good measure... right-click on the Windows icon in the bottom left corner > Properties > Start Menu tab > Customize... button > increase the number from 0 (try 10 instead) in the Number of recent items to display in Jump Lists.

1. Copy the next line to the paste board, [highlight it in blue by dragging the cursor across the line from left to right, press and hold Ctrl then press C - release both.]
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
2. Open any Internet Explorer Folder.
3. In the address bar at the top, you will see an icon, usually yellow and blue by default, at the left hand end.
4. Click on that icon which will highlight everything in the address bar in blue.
5. Press and hold Ctrl then press V - release both, this will paste the line you previously copied, into the address bar.
6. Click the blue arrow at the end of the address bar.
7. A folder will have opened up, C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations.
8. Locate the file with the name - 1b4dd67f29cb1962.automaticDestinations-ms - probably the first one displayed in the folder.
9. Delete this.
Enjoy the Jump Lists once again. I find them extremely useful.

Thanks again for the reply, however that did not resolve the issue. there must have been something deleted when I pushed my image out to my PC's. I need to know where the Registry seetting is for this. This is aon all my machines. Sems that this file that I delete, also gets recreated everytime I login as well. These are brand new installs with hardly any history

Good Morning, None of these ideas are working. What I have found is that after installing some programs, something happens and it must change a registry key somewhere. Can anyone tell me what the registry key is that enables or disables this Jump List. Maybe even a GP that is attached to this, that may need to be disabled.

Thank you

Okay, well I found the issue, by running through my procedures. Here is the deal. If I delete the registry key that removes the Shortcut icon from the all the desktop icons, it stops the Jump list.  Wow, that sucks because our clients don't need to see the shortcut icon on everything. We have a virtual environment and they should not see that.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile\IsShortcut, add this back in and it works everytime

Here is the culprit, wow, that was painful. So how else can I remove the shortcut logo from the desktop icons.

Thanks again for all your help
