compaq laptop won't accept profile

Does anyone know why a Compaq laptop cannot turn on fully because it does not recognise "the profile", even though it is not giving the option to sign on in any way?

Boot it with a UBCD, then run the HD manufacturer's diagnostic utility on it:

http://ultimatebootcd.com

Also, what OS is installed?

Might have a corrupted profile. As rindi guess, it might be a corrupted hard drive. You can try to fix the problem with a check disk or you might have to create a new profile then copy the file to the new profile.

A quick an easy way to create a new profile would be to boot in safe mode. With some luck you should access the Administrator profile and from there you can create a new profile within control panel.
