Windows 7 Sync

Hello,

I have a mapped network drive on a Windows 7 Professional computer.

I set up the folder with the 'Always Available Offline' option by right clicking the mapped network drive so that when I’m out on the road I can see the contents of the drive, amend and re-sync when I am back in the office. The mapped folder is to a NAS box (Netgear storage device).

It is very frustrating however as I cannot set this up correctly and it has never sync'd properly.

When I go to the Sync Centre in Windows 7 and ask it to sync it will stop after a minute and say it stopped because 'The specified network name is no longer available' and it specifies a specific file being sync'd.

The annoying thing is it should be available, the NAS is never turned off and it is connected via IP address which never changes. I am not sure why the sync centre does not move to the next file to syn and try that.. why does it stop completely !?

It does seem to do a half job however. I can see some files sync'd when offline. but there is more than well over 60% missing !

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

regards,

It seems to do it for loads of files and it should there is no reason why it shouldn't.

The annoying thing is that it stops the entire sync !  After and does not continue :(

Is there any alternative to this for windows the xp version worked so well !!

If you use NetScaler you will want to see these guides. The NetScaler How To Guides show administrators how to get NetScaler up and configured by providing instructions for common scenarios and some not so common ones.

If you finally get fed up with Windows 7 Sync not working (especially at critical moments when you really need it), take a look at SyncBack Pro (2brightsparks.com). It syncs real files between two locations and can handle thousands of files in hundreds of folders with no errors. I use it all the time and think it is grand. .... Thinkpads_User

Are there any other recommendations on alternatives to sync in windows other than sync back pro. The windows 7 one appears awful compared to windows xp.

Sync Back Pro is as good as I have seen, and my clients eagerly use it instead of the Windows stuff.

There is also Allways Sync which I understand to be quite good (http://allwaysync.com/) and it is free. Sync Back has a free version as well. I like the flexibility of the Pro version so you could mix and match to keep your costs down. ... Thinkpads_User
