Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Hello Experrts
As of sometime after 9:44 (the last email timestamp) I have one machine that will not access the net. All the other machines in the network connect just fine. This one appears to be the only one with a problem.
I can release and renew the IP address, I can ping addresses in the local network, including the gateway (Netgear ProSafe VPN Firewall SRXN3205), and I can ping public IP addresses and Yahoo. But I can't access anything, INCLUDING the gateway.
I've run the Winsock fix and SFC, but neither made any difference (restarted after each, BTW).
It appears the issue is in the computer, but I'm danged if I can figger a resolution.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Is there anything more to the error message?
have you done a system restore to before the issue occured, try running something like www.hijackthis.de and analysing it, www.pandasoftware.com and activescan etc
you can download the hijack this on another machine and then ocopy it run it and save the logs and pop them back on another system.
maybe combofix is worth running too.

No, it's the common page.

I run NIS 2102, MalwareBytes (pro so it updates and scans regularly... I think if I had some issue like that, the protections I have would show something.
If there are no relevant offers by midday tomorrow, I'll pull the drive and scan it thoroughly for spyware, etc.

Is Norton up to date and the subscription still good? I ask because there have been a lot of cases where an expired Norton messes things up and an un-installed Norton doesn't uninstall completely and blocks internet access.
Are you able to install Firefox on that computer and use it to check your internet connection?

NIS is up to date. I just ran a scan and all is OK. I don't have FireFox installed, but Chrome is there and shows a similar no-connect response (Unable to access the network)

Can you connect to the other computers on the network by name and/or IP in Windows Explorer? Does anything show in Network Neighborhood? Any web servers on the LAN you can connect to? From a command prompt, does 'nslookup' work to get an IP for a domain name? Have you compared the network setup screen to the other computers on the network? Make sure DNS selection is correct?

DaveBaldwin:
I cannot connect to other machines via IE (I checked two of them and they have complete access). I get the same messages as when I try to connect to my router (either "invalid address" or "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".
My Network Places shows all the places but will not connect to any of them.
NSLookup shows the primary DNS from my ISP, as does a working machine.
Network setup is the same as that working machine.
DNS is correct.
Starting to consider a repair install.
Thanks

That is pretty odd. Normally one of those things will show some clue as to what's blocking access. Because that is clearly what is happening. I use a program called TCPView from Sysinternals (now part of Microsoft) to show all the current TCP/UDP connections on your computer. I would understand if you're tired of dealing with this but it would be interesting to see what it shows. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897437
