I am trying to get clear on MemCache

Is this a seprate product that is installed with web applications for caching Query results/data?

Is it similar to Oracle caching?

Any disadvantages of using memcache for transactional systems.?

yes, i meant memcached.

Is this more a separate product for static websites?

Does it work with web database applications? does it have any cons if you use it with Mysql/php.

I don't really think of it in terms of data base applications.  To me, it's more of a way to store objects for high-speed update and retrieval.  This page shows some of the ways it can be used.

Of course it is compatible with static or dynamic web sites and with php/mysql sites of all sizes.   Some users include Yahoo, Twitter, and I believe Digg and Facebook, too.
