I need to reference an elements dataval set

I need to access all the properties contained in an element's dataset, such as valRegex, and others.

How can I reference them and get the values?

Shall I get and set them thusly?

element.dataset.valRegex?

well, first, how did you set the properties in the element dataset at first place? any example or pointer for the same?
