I have a vpn tunnel set up between one of my branch offices and the main head office but the Windows RDP has stopped working for some reason. Its really weird as it was working fine and just stopped one day and no solution has been found. The branch machine has win 7 installed and the main office pc has Win XP.

From the branch office I can ping the main office pc and vice versa. My network specialist whom set up the VPN says that he has tested the connection and its fine so not sure where to turn other than testing using another rdp software.

Is there anything free that can be recomended?

ultra vnc is a good remote desktop solution and its free.

You need to install it on all the workstations as a server and then the client on your machine. It works very well and is exceptional over vpn (better than rdp in my opinion)

There are others but all really on a client / server scenario.
