I did a "dir flash:" and did not see a crash file.

Is there somewhere else to look?

Should "show version" show an error message instead of "returned to ROM by power-on"

Try "dir /all", the crash files may be in a sub folder.  Also, is this a single switch or a stack of switches?  If it's a stack, you can do "dir flash1", "dir flash2", etc

dir all showed all the files for the stack but nothing with the word crash in the name.

sounds like the switch doesn't think it crashed, only lost power and then powered back on
