Hi

There are three options of hosting the wcf applications

1. Console(or windows application)
2, Windows service
3. IIS

Now if I create a wcf service and in the console application I just add the service reference and use the function then which of the following options I am using for hosting the service.

Kindly advice

I prefer IIS server to host the service.

Advantages:
Automatic Activation:

In IIS the Service do not keep on running, when request is made for the Service it get activated. But in case of self-hosting the service should always be running.

Prevent Recycling:

When a request is made from the browser a worker process is spawned and request is processed. While the browser is disconnected, the worker process is restarted by IIS to ensure that there is no memory leak. But in case of self-hosting you need to write code to ensure such thing.

Hi sonawanekiran

Thanks for the response. Actually I was asking for the method which I have implemented. But I got the answer that I have hosted in  IIS. One quick thing which I want to know from you is -

There was a concept called ASP.NET development server because of which we don't have to create the virtual directory which we used to do earlier, but we can run the websites directly. Can we run the WCF service on ASP.NET development server.

Please let me know if my question is not clear.

Yes you can. But
1) It is not recommended
2) If it is running on different port you need open the port
3) Not sure( If you close visual studio, development server goes off

So this is temporary provided by VS to test your development work
