Gmail Push in Outlook 2010

I have a client who uses gmail. I set him up with a new laptop and office 2010. He set his gmail account up in outlook 2010 but unlike 2007 he is not receiving push updates. What's different in ol2010 vs ol 2007 that could be causing this issue?

are you using IMAP or POP3 ? use IMAP to get push (real time) emails..

yep, it's imap. same config as it was in outlook 2k7
