Hello Experts,

We have a Microsoft Dynamics CRM4.0 Professional Server sunning on a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Ent Server with SQL Server 2008. We have installed a new CRM 2011 Professional Server running on Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. We are trying to migrate the corganisations from the 4.0 box to the 2011 box. According to the deployment manual, we are supposed to backup the databases on the 4.0 server and then restore them on the 2011 server and then run the Import Organisation Wizard. However, after restoring the databases, the Deployment manger is failing to load.

Any ideas?/

I'm guessing that you copied across all the databases from the 4.0 system including the MSCRM_CONFIG one.  MSCRM_CONFIG is the one database that you must not copy to the new SQL Server.

If you have a backup of MSCRM_CONFIG for the new server after the CRM installation then try restoring that. Otherwise I think a new install of CRM 2011 will be the quickest.

Then only copy over the organization databases - these end in _MSCRM, e,g, ABCLtd_MSCRM.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much, that was exactly what I needed to do. I am suprised at how the implementation guide from Microsoft missed that.
