Hi All,

I'm planning on creating my first Sharepoint Site using Sharepoint 2010 and I have a few questions.

1. Can I develop/run a share-point site on my desktop using Sharepoint 2010 designer without Sharepoint Enterprise Server?

2. I have a my own SQL server that keep tracks of data every 30min. I would like to create a sharepoint Dashboard using this sql server, but need to know if I can develop/run it on my desktop only?

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/demo-display-kpis-in-a-dashboard-HA010254917.aspx

3. Not sure yet how to make ASP/C# connections to feed my Sharepoint 2010 Dashboard.

Thanks.

SharePoint Designer is a tool like the old front page to help you create and customise sharepoint site, list, etc, it's not a replacement tool for sharepoint server.
It's not really clear what you want to do with the dashboard, but as it is a specila web part you have it only where you deploy it. But as far as I know this is only available with the enterprise version of sharepoint.

MS office SharePoint workspace is a tool to synchronize off and on line sharepoint workspace between the sharepoint server and your pc (for people wo want a local copy of the files stored on the sharepoint server)
Designer is a tool to create and customise sharepoint sites, librairies, list, create workflow, etc...
