Hi Experts,

I have new installation of sbs 2011 standard with be 2010 r3, everything runs smoothly,
the backup is sucessful but when i configure the Bakup exec job setup, i cant see any mailboxes, i can only see the exchange information store and the size is o kb in the details.
so that worries me, why i cant see any mailboxes, am i backuping exchange 2010 correctly?
i think the GRT is available on BE 2010 r3.

Please provide guidance.
Thanks.

Hi, Thats correct because it uses GRT (Granular Recovery technology) so providing you have not disabled this you will be able to drill down to individual messages when you do the restore. Additionally I would not advise you to go live on a Server until you have confirmed for sure that you can restore it.

In BEW go to Tools \ Options then MS Exchange as per screen shot and its a check box, in your case though its already enabled. Run your backup then go to do a restore job and you will see that you can drill down to brick level.

Hi, normally you would be able to but not in this case and this kind of thing is typical with backup exec. It's great product, I love it and I'm really looking forward to backup exec.cloud when it's launched (next month I believe) but you can see why I say make sure you can restore a box before you go live on it.

Ok it might be an issue with the media then in that case. 28 and 29 point to the same device but the disk is a different platter. I would keep backing up to the RD1000 and check the restore, when you get around to that disk again see if the issue re occurs. Also as a tip you can always hang a USB HDD off the back of your box and use windows server backup as well as bew, it backs up to a VHD which can be mounted in hyper v and also you can use to restore the box.

This is the way GRT works. If you want to be able to drill down and only backup a couple of mailboxes you have to disable GRT.
