I have just installed the latest version of git (1.7.6.1)but git --version gives the old version number(1.7.4.4).
I am using MacOS Lion.
Thank you.

(/usr/local/git/bin is in the PATH variable)

I fixed that by adding /usr/local/git/bin at the top of /etc/paths file.
Is it the best way to deal with that?
