asked on
How do I make the file this script attaches to the email display the real file name?
This script gives the user the option to upload a file for us to use as an example with their project. Once the form is filled out, it emails us all the info including the attachment. Found the base code online for free and have been editing it to work since. Everything works perfectly right now, except the attachment just comes named as "noname" (with no file extension either, ie: jpg). Because of this it forces you to download the file before you can actually open it. We only allow image uploads and id like it to send the real file name so it can be opened in the browser as well.
Sorry if this is confusing. Feel free to ask if I didn't explain it right.

I'm a noob haha. Can you help me implement that? I have no clue where to begin.
In that case, buy this book. It won't make you a pro, but it will help you get some kind of foundation in how PHP works.

I'll see if I can scrape up an example for you. Back in a while, ~Ray

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into the book. I just bought one recently from a friend and have been doing my best to get well versed, but it seems to be a slow process haha.
This code successfully gets the name of the file. But I mean I want to name the attachment itself. If I upload an image called "test.jpg" it will arrive in the email just called "noname". It loses the name of the file and it's extension. Also, since there is no file extension obviously the browser has no idea how to handle it and forces a download of the file.
For clarification: The file that is uploaded is not just put on the server. It is also attached to the email that is sent.

Did you try the version I posted? If so, and it still fails, my guess is that there is something inside the addAttachment() method that is causing the problem.
ASKER
Yeah, I tried yours. File name stayed the same. I'm looking at the code for mime.php. I attached it below. This stuff is definitely above my skill level haha. Any suggestions what to do?

Well, I looked at it for a while and I do not immediately see it. I have to leave now, but here is what I would suggest. Instead of emailing the file, produce a fully qualified URL that points to the uploaded file on your server. Send the URL in the email message. Your mail agent will probably turn this into a link and you can just click it. Less weight to the messages, less junk in the inbox.
