Scanning barcodes with Safari on an iPhone

I have created a website on our internal network that allows us to edit a few products details from our iPhones.
The VPN connects the user via 3G to our network and then we bring up Safari to search the stock database.

I want to find out if there is a way that we can scan barcodes from within Safari so that we can scan the code in rather that typing in barcodes or descriptions manually.

I know there are already barcode apps for free for the iPhone but I cant see how to launch them so that they are available in the safari app.

In safari we have a search box and it would be good to launch the barcode scanner from there.

Any Thoughts?

There are Bluetooth barcode scanners or the iPhone that work like keyboards. So in safari you click in the field, then scan the barcode. It pops up in the field you had selected.

Downside: they are about $500.

I don't know of a way for a webpage to control the camera. An app can, so maybe you have to make an app that displays the webpage but thn also has camera control, like facebook's app.
