Exchange Server 2007 Receiver Connector Help

I am having a problem with receiving mail in a single server environment for Exchange Server 2007. External email comes back with the following:

Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists:

jthompson@nhscnj.org
There's a problem with the recipient's mailbox. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator.

and then it is rejected by

In-MTA, is your NHSCEXCHANGE pointing the outbound to IN-MTA.

Like a smarthost pointing to inmta from plainfield server.

ASKER

Here is some additional information.  We use Trend Micro's Pre-Cloud Filtering that forwards email to a Trend Micro IMSVA Appliance that then forwards it to the exchange server.  When I trace the email through the log files it arrives in the exchange server but doesn't get to the client.  TalkExchange, I'm not understanding your statement or question.
