What is media encoding?

If someone tells me that the media is encoded in a proprietary way, does that mean that the data payload is encrypted?

I have a question - why P2P application UUSEE is hard to be detected in a network. I am wondering if it has got to do with media encoding..

It's not necessarily encryption.  This page http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_media.asp lists a number of the common media formats that music and videos can be encoded with.

"UUSEE is a P2P (Peer to Peer) TV sharing program and it's only in Chinese, what makes very difficult to understand menus and options."  Unless you read Chinese of course.   http://askville.amazon.com/UUSEE-pioneer-P2P-streaming-media/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=13974461

It does require a program to be installed on the computer that is sharing the stream so you could look for that.
