terminal monitor in vty

I am wanting to use the terminal monitor command during a vty (ssh) session into a cisco 6500 switch.  Whenever i unplug a device from a switchport i want to see this in real time.  This is not working using terminal monitor command.  I only have access to this switch using vty(ssh).

You can enter this globally for all interfaces or you can go under the interface and enter this command for that specific interface. This will give you live up down status of ports.
