Should I install 32 bit or 64 bit sound drivers on Windows 7 64bit if I'll be using a 32bit sound program?

I have an M-Audio Fasttrack USB ASIO sound card and I'm not sure whether to install the 32 bit or 64 bit drivers on my Windows 7 64 bit machine.

I just had the 64bit M-Audio driver installed along with Cakewalk Sonar 64bit which was bridging to 32bit plug-ins and I was running into all sorts of problems. Some of the 32 bit plug-ins worked fine when I used them outside of Sonar, but when I used them through Sonar they wouldn't function correctly.

I uninstalled everything and did a System Restore. Now I'm planning on trying out the 32bit version of the Sonar installation and I'm wondering whether I should install the 32 bit drivers for my sound card as well? What would you guys recommend?

    Accepted Solution

If you're using Windows 64-bit, you must install 64-bit drivers. However, you can install 32-bit programs on a 64-bit.
