asked on

Access Denied when installing SP

We have a network of around 80 PCs. On some PCs when we try and install XP SP2 or SP3, we get an error "Access denied"

The changed are rolled back.

This has happened twice this week..

1) Newly installed XP pro desktop can't install SP3

2) newly built virtual 64bit XP PC can't install SP2

Both access denied...

Any ideas?

Yes, the username has domain admins..

I've even taken on PC out of the domain and used local admin

Both same result.

Can i ask you if you have tried to install winxp pro and sp3 before you join a PC on the domain. I tend to have the pc pretty much all patched up before i get it to our domain.

Can you try that?

It shouldn't matter.. but I have removed from domain and still same.. I may build a fresh one and try and install it before entering the domain

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
