CA Total Defense R12 - Horrible

All,

More of a question than an issue. We upgraded to total defense R12 a few months back and so far it has been horrible, It bogs servers down, Does not run scheduled scans (CA. Admitted Bug) and general resource hog. It increased my workday since i was checking to see if its actually working. I am particularly paranoid about this as we had a confiker infection a few months back and it took a while to completely kill it

We upgraded from entrust r 8.1 and I would love to back to that, My question is has anyone installed R.8.X on  64bIT 2008 Servers without any issues.

Thanks

CA Confirmed that TD12 is really really heavy. In fact it has some bugs and current/future service packs will prolly make it better.
We were working with CA antivirus for more than 12 years and finally we left them because TD12 was unpredictable and unstable... long story short : since eTrust 8.1 can not be upgraded into TD12, we just chose another product and ended up with FSecure.

Regarding your question : You can safely install  8.1.655  on 2008 64. There is a patch to install on 64 bits system so it can download signature updates.

I Suggest you install the console on a x86 system, some old 2003 server or leftover xp machine. Installing console on 2008 R2 works but can lead to some file modifications to make it work perfectly

Thanks for that.. kinda what i was looking for,  I was hoping to go back to 8.1x but I have been looking at
Business Space Security by kaspersky, I have 2 DC'S, 1 exchange 2010 server (just need av for the actual OS since email is handled Offsite) and sql2008 server and 2 X 2003 servers.

How is FSecure working out for you?

Not bad at all, installed antivirus for OS only on exchange too. Console is great, deployment is kinda easy. It also uninstalls old etrust (sometimes it fails, think about deactivating ino services before deployment is nice). Policies are really deep and you can configure it and tweak the behaviour more than you can do with eTrust console.

It is a bit more "heavy" than etrust but it discovers a lot of spywares and even viruses eTrust did not find. I really like eTrust during the 10 last years but it became less and less reliable and I didnt feel secured and we slowly moved all our customers from CA to Fsecure.

Finally, some users reported that their PC are slower than before with fsecure. I deactivated deepguard for these users and PC became fast again .... But that is another story and another topic.

Just dont stay with TD12, I think it's the best advice I can give you.

Thanks again,  I'm looking just for a server solution as the workstations are covered with McAfee via our sonicwall firewalls and pretty much catch everything. I looked at F-secure and pretty much can only see the workstation versions, I'll give them a call.
