when opening a particular package within a project in visual studio - it comes to a halt with :  come to a halt with Microsoft Visual Studio is waiting for an internal operation to complete. If you regularly encounter this delay during normal usage, please report this problem to Microsoft

    Sounds like you may need to rebuild that package if it is the only one that breaks VS, but it appears you are not alone.

    Opened in October 2009 with 93 up votes and current posts as of August 2011 and still listed as Active by Microsoft:
