Migration to SBS 2011 from Server 2003 R2 Enterprise

Hi Experts,

I am planning a migration from a Server 2003 R2 Enterprise to a SBS2011 server. This is my first migration to SBS2011 so I am trying to make sure I have everything in place. According to technet article, the migration is a little different in SBS2011.

I just want to make sure that the above article is correct in terms that I run a migration tool from the SBS2011 server.

Also, does any preperation need to be done on the source (Server 2003 R2 Enterprise) server? The current source server is running:

Exchange 2003

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You run the migration preparation tool on the SOURCE server (in this case your 2003 server) not your destination server.

Thanks for the clarification Cliff. Will migrating from the Server 2003 R2 be an issue? I've only done SBS to SBS migrations in the past.

Cliff GaliherCommented:
As long as it is planned and tested with backups, you should be fine. I've done quite a few standard-to-SBS migrations, including 2011. The process works. The wildcard is the health of your servers and networks, so operating with a safety net is always recommended.
