cached icons in the tab network

I have a client that has many icons for network connections to sharepoint, is a kind of cache that is formed with use.

 Can I delete it?

 Can I avoid creating?

Is this what you are referring to by the above link? This was the XP policy to use to prevent them, not sure if it has effect on Windows 7....
