Know applications installed in sd or phone memory

I am going to upgrade android version 2.1(eclair) to 2.3 (gigerbread).

I have few applications already installed in my phone(SE Xperia X10 - 2.1 pre-installed)

I need to know two things:

1. I need to know how i can understand which applications i installed in phone memory and which application is there in    sd card?
2. Can i take a backup of the applications installed in phone memory to sd card before the update?

thanks for help in advance

1. Try App 2 SD--it will show which apps are on your phone and which are on your SD card:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd&feature=search_result

2.  You can backup your apps to the SD card with Astro.  Install the app then use the backup tool and select all apps.  You can then reinstall after the update.

Alternatively you can use App List Backup for #2 to keep a list of prior applications and then reinstall each one from the market but I would recommend Astro.
