lost password remote user

Scenario:  I have a remote laptop user who doesn't know their password.  I reset a new password on his network account then got him logged on his laptop as local administrator of the laptop.  He was then able to log onto our VPN using the new credentials I set for him.

However this is still not updating his local cached credentials on the laptop.  He rebooted after letting it be connected to the VPN for a bit and the local machines still won't let him logon with the new password we set.

In this scenario how can we get the local cached password updated so he can login to his own profile again - all done remotely?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

login with local account and make VPN connection.
Then do runas /user:domain\username cmd
will ask for password... provide new password...
This will sync the cache

Vista and 7
Log on with cached credentials
connect to VPN
Lock the workstation and unlock with new password.
Runas trick should also work on vista and 7
