Central Management Server failed to start

I'll start this by saying I have no idea what this service is.

We had a site custom written for us to put our audits in. The thing has ran for month with no issues. Then out of nowhere it stopped working. When I check the logs I can see:

"Failed to register with the CMS webserver. Please make sure the CMS is up and running.  Attempting an automatic retry..."

When I check the services, I can see "Central Management Server" hasn't started. When I try to start it I get:

"Could Not Start  the Central Management Server service on Local Computer

Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."

I checked the path to executable and the cms.exe is still there. I have no idea what to do next. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

That should like a service the Central Management Server service depends on did not start. Check the dependencies tab on the CMS service to see what services it depends on. Make sure all those services are running properly.
