Discovery process fails XenApp 6.5

This is a new farm, fresh install.
When I run the discovery process for the first time I get a error "Errors occurred when using serverxxx in the discovery process.  If I click on the discovery I get "This user account is not an administrator of this farm, or there was a problem contacting the data store. Check that the data store server for the Citrix XenApp farm is online, and verify that your account is configured and enabled as an administrator on the farm."

How do I resolve this?
Please help!

Login with the account that was used to install XenApp 6.5.  Open AppCenter and add your account and any other accounts that will need to manage the farm.  Logoff, login with your account, start AppCenter and Discovery should run just fine.

How do I add my account in AppCenter?  Where?

mrbodjaglesAuthor Commented:
There is no "administrator" node in AppCenter to add the account.

Try using PowerShell and New-XAAdministrator

What is PowerShell and New-XAAdministrator?

Carl WebsterCommented:
PowerShell has been around for years and ships with Server 2008 R2 and Citrix supplies PowerShell cmdlets to let you manage just about everything for XenApp 6.5 by using PowerShell.

What are the commands in PowerShell to sucessfully finish the Discovery Process?

Carl WebsterCommented:
Powershell does not do or need discovery.  When you log in to the server using the account used to install xa6.5, does discovery work?

As the title of my post says "Discovery process fails XenApp 6.5".  This is a fresh install.  The initial discovery process does NOT work.
The error I get is "This user account is not an administrator of this farm, or there was a problem contacting the data store. Check that the data store server for the Citrix XenApp farm is online, and verify that your account is configured and enabled as an administrator on the farm"

The farm has not yet been created.  The initial discovery process fails.
How can I add a user to administer the farm if the farm has not yet been created?

Carl WebsterCommented:
If the farm has not been created then you cannot run discovery.  Discovery reds the farm data store to populate the appcenter console.  Since you have created the farm yet, there is not data store.  Since there is no data store, there is nothing for the discovery process to read.

CRAP my typing skills have gone to pot!

Discovery reads the farm data store to populate the appcenter console.  Since you have NOT created the farm yet, there is no data store.  Since there is no data store, there is nothing for the discovery process to read.

If I load XenApp Server Role Manager, under the XenApp heading I have a green check next to "Licensing Specified" and I have a green check next to "Configured".
Under the License Server heading I have a green check next to "Configured".

So, the farm has been installed, correct?

Carl WebsterCommented:
Nope, your license server is installed and configured.  Nothing else.

Okay, let me ask the next stupid question.  How do I "install the farm"?
0

mrbodjaglesAuthor Commented:
I have already gone through the process of "creating the farm" when I installed XenApp Server.

Carl WebsterCommented:
But you said earlier "the farm has not yet been created".

During the install it asks for an account to be used as the initial full farm administrator.  What account did you enter there.  That is the only account that can run discovery at this time.

I have already gone through the steps from the link you posted.

I believe I used the local Administrator account.  If I use that to run discovery I am not given the option to use Active Directory for the Central Store location.   Is there a way to run the discovery with the local Administrator account and still use AD for the central store location?
0

Carl WebsterCommented:
Run discovery as the local admin and add your domain account as a full farm admin.  Login as your domain account and run discovery.  You will be good to go then.

The SSO asks for a NTFS share, is this something that was setup during the install process?  Where is this directory at?  Can I move it to a A/D location later?
0

Carl WebsterCommented:
Uncheck SSO.  You can uninstall that piece of software.  I have no idea why Citrix insists on installing it.

If I have the time.  I am writing a big report for a customer and getting ready for VMware 5 training next week.
