Need Simple Transparent  Image tool

I only occasionally need to use a graphics tool. So I have SnagIt on hand as it does what I need.

But now I want to make a photo taken against a green screen transparent. SnagIt supposedly does this. But as I am not a lighting expert so my green is not 100% consistent. In that, it is various shades of green (within a range) depending on the flash.

What I need is a tool that lets me adjust the sensitivity of the transparent color to allow a range of greens.

Can anyone offer any suggestions, preferably for a free program?

Many thanks.

I still whip out MS Photo Editor 3 (you can find it in the wild) which allows quick down and dirty transparency setting, with a "color similarity" range setting.

Then there's always
