Hi, I Have set up a template for the blog section of my site.
Problem is if you click on the archives or recent post link, you are taken to a page that uses the default template - I need it to continue to use the blog template i have set up?
How can I fix this?"

You should create an "archive.php" for the theme you are using

Basically you just copy the archive.php that's inside the default wordpress theme, and adjust it to your styles

Great thank you, that works great for the archives - what about the recent posts link?
