jsut give a try to some of the below steps and it may surely solve the issue.

1> Have u tried to reboot your machine and checked ?
2> If still then open Windows Task Manager --> Go to Processes Tab ---> in that search for Image NAme "Outlook.EXE" right click and end process tree. --> Reboot the Machine and try it now

Thank you for all your replies.
Your solution, Ahmed786, solved the problem, thank you.  Can you please explain how the situation arose in the first place and what is the 'tree'?
It may happen because of some add-ins in the outlook or else you might be lacking some outlook updates.
If this come again then you can try to disable each add-ins one by one and give a try.

Tree means its kills all the instances of outlook.exe which is running on ur machine.

Can you please give a points as how you liked this solution.

Thank you.
I have tried all of these options.  I still have the problem of Outlook opening twice.  I have decided to make this useful, I use the second one as my calendar, but it would be nice to have some controll over this issue.
