Disabling Sophos On-Access scan on server - Good idea?

Hi All,

Looking for peoples opinions.

Im toying with the idea of disabling the On-access scanning on the Sophos agents for my servers purely because of the improvement this provides with my nightly backups. If i run a nightly scan on the servers after backups have run with this too much of a security compromise?

Well i do not know sophos, but i would not stop av-scanning. Imho its better to make snapshots of the target systems and use those snapshots for Backup purpose. Since the files in those snapshots are not accessed your scanner should not worry. But of course you need enough storage for the snapshots..

I hope you have excluded the files and folder from the Anti-Virus to scan from the Windows Server. Have a look at the article below:

Further, if that does not help, you may need to find how to improve the Backup with AV running. As suggested by wowrop as well, disabling the AV is not a good idea.
