SCVMM 20008 R2 SP1 loosing Hyper-V Hosts after some time

Hi,

I'm running some Hyper-V Hosts (Windows 2008 R2 SP1and i manage them with System Center Virtual Machina Manager 2008 R2 SP1.
When i start the machines all works as expected.
After some time the SCVMM-Console is not langer able to manage virtual machines (Error: host not reachable) aand i find the following error in the tasks-log:
Internal error contacting the Agent on the server "SERVERNAME".
 (Unknown error (0x80041004))
When i reboot the Host with the error it works again for a while and after some hours i get the error again.
All Hosts are SP1with all latest patches - the strange thing ist that one of the five Hyper-V Hosts is never loosing the connection.

Additional: I've the same problem with a customers system:
Two Hosts managed with SCVMM - one never losing the connection, the oother after somee hours.

BTW: The Firewall is configured to allow everithing between the servers.

Any ideas ?

As a first step Stop and Start the VMMS service to see if this will bring the connections up again.

Any other Roles or Features installed on your Hyper-V host ?

Stopping the VMM-Services doesn't chang the state (tested on botzh sides - Agent and Server)
The Hosts have only Hyper-V Role and installed Backup-Software (Backup Assist).
We also have Symantec Endpoint installed on our Hosts - this could not be the problem because i haven't installaed it on my customers machines.

No, unfortunatelly not. I searched on both sides - Hyper-V Host and VMM. The strange thing is that i have one Host in each network (customers and ours) which is not affected and always shown correctly.
I tried to find out what's unique on this but i found nothing - all servers are same ore nearly same hardware and all are installed nearly identical running only hyper-v role and doubletake availability virtual host edition. (doubletake can not be the problem - i had the vmm-problem bevore installing it).
-> i'll reboot the two customers hosts today and look for entries in the eventlog.

I've rebooted the Hosts yesterday -  the "problemhost" diesappeared betwenn 22.04 and 23.04 from SCVMM. I checked System /Application-Log but i found no bad eventlog-entries. The only thing is that the bacup starts in these time (on 22.00). We are using Backupassist as Bare-Metal Backup for all Volumes. (It's based on Windows-internal Backupengine).
Any ideas ?

Hi,

Virtual Machine "Disappears" from Hyper-V Manager or changes to a VM cannot be applied
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/robertvi/archive/2009/04/07/virtual-machine-disappears-from-hyper-v-manager-or-changes-to-a-vm-cannot-be-applied.aspx

<pgv01>: I've Symantec Endpoitnt Protection installed and excluded awhole Hyper-V-Machines-Folder - on the Customers Hostzs i've no AV-Software installed - it makes no difference.

Dealing with MAC address pool duplication in Hyper-V

<pgv01>: On the customers Hosts MAC's are from SCVMM-Pool generated and set to static. On my Servers all Macs are set to dynamic - they get it from SCVMM.

The problem is typically with the Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) service on your host machines. My two hyper-v hosts do the same thing. I reboot them and they work again in SCVMM 2008 SP1.

I'm trying to figure out what's going on with those services that cause the issue. if you try to restart the services, they get stuck in the "stopping" state
