Event ID 502, Windows 7 Folder Redirection

We currently have Folder Redirection for Desktop and My documents in place on our Windows 2008 R2 server with SP1. All group polices get applied fine on our client XP machines. But for some reason not Desktop redirection on our client Windows 7 Pro SP1 machines (my documents gets redirected fine).

Any help on this would be definitely appreciated.

Error:
Eventid: 502
Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "Desktop" to "\\dave\teachersdesktop".
Redirection options=0x9009.
The following error occurred: "Failed to copy files from "C:\Users\tsss\Desktop" to "\\dave\teachersdesktop"".
Error details: "This function is not supported on this system.
".

Folder Redirection did not complete policy processing because the user needs to log on again for the settings to be applied. Group Policy will attempt to apply the settings at the user's next logon.

Also, folder redirection can take unto 3 logins, that is by design unless you apply this policy:
Computer Configuration | Policies | Administrative Templates | System | Logon Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon policy

Put this on domain level & reboot the machine.

Thanks Ackles, we do have that policy in place 'Logon Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon policy'.

Read through the microsoft link, applied what it said.  ran a gpupdate /force and rebooted afterwards.  Still same issue but given us a variation of the eventid 502.

Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "Desktop" to "\\dave\teachersdesktop".
 Redirection options=0x9219.
The following error occurred: "Can not create folder "\\dave\teachersdesktop"".
Error details: "This security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object.
".

Again thanks for the advice.

Can you check rights on folders? Most of the time it's the rights.

If you read the error it says that user is not the Owner, go through the rights carefully & you should be all set :)

I have checked the rights of the shared folder 'teachersdesktop' on the server, it is shared to the relevant groups and security is set to read only for the relevant groups.

I removed the tick for 'Grant The user Exclusive Rights to the folder'

ran gpupdate and rebooted and back to the eventid 502:

Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "Desktop" to "\\dave\teachersdesktop".
Redirection options=0x9009.
The following error occurred: "Failed to copy files from "C:\Users\tsss\Desktop" to "\\dave\teachersdesktop"".
Error details: "This function is not supported on this system.
".

Appreciate you looking into this for me, been struggling with this for 2 days off and on.

What is the difference between documents & Desktop?
It seems the problem is because you have pre defined location of desktop which is the problem.

The desktop folder is readonly, to prevent users loading the desktop with junk and i gives us control on what shortcuts are used.

Try giving full rights for everyone, just for test.

Just tried adding 'everyone' same id: "This function is not supported on this system".

Hi,

I am having exactly the same issue just for one user though, for the rest is fine; and for me not moving the folder "Desktop" to be redirected is not an option, I hence cannot apply the suggested workaround.
Is there any other fix you guys suggest?
Thanks.
