i refer to this one
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/show-status.html

#

Bytes_received

The number of bytes received from all clients. This variable was added in MySQL 3.23.7.
#

Bytes_sent

The number of bytes sent to all clients. This variable was added in MySQL 3.23.7.

but i am few confusion ..

(a) Bytes Received : i guess its anything insert into database or any query recieved from php or any other application

(b) bytes Sent : i guess its sending the data to the client back ..

Now if i look at bellow result :

mysql>  SHOW STATUS LIKE 'Bytes_sent';
+---------------+-------+
| Variable_name | Value |
+---------------+-------+
| Bytes_sent    | 181   |
+---------------+-------+
1 row in set (0.17 sec)

mysql>  SHOW STATUS LIKE 'Bytes_sent';
+---------------+-------+
| Variable_name | Value |
+---------------+-------+
| Bytes_sent    | 323   |
+---------------+-------+
1 row in set (0.17 sec)

mysql>  SHOW STATUS LIKE 'Bytes_sent';
+---------------+-------+
| Variable_name | Value |
+---------------+-------+
| Bytes_sent    | 465   |
+---------------+-------+
1 row in set (0.18 sec)

mysql>  SHOW STATUS LIKE 'Bytes_sent';
+---------------+-------+
| Variable_name | Value |
+---------------+-------+
| Bytes_sent    | 607   |
+---------------+-------+
1 row in set (0.17 sec)

this is one of our master server

every time i type the command its starts with 181 then every time I typed, its go high and high ..

>>>why its starts from 181 always ??

now if look at cacti graph
it sayg

Byte Sent : Avg 741.8 K
Byte Received : avt 40 K

Byte Sent : Current 868K
Byte Sent : Current 40 K

->> From where this values are comming ???

I have another Mysql SErver

where Byte sent : 2.5M
and Byte Receive : 103K

but Mysql Status for Bytes Received and Bytes_sent does not refject that value ..

hence i am confused.

Note that following each of your requests for show status, the increment is 128.
Everytime you establish a new connection these counter seem to start from the same point/value.

The bytes_received/bytes_sent you query seem to be session based data.
i.e. you connect and the response to your connection request is 181bytes that mysql sent.
Is cacti reflecting the amount of data sent/received based on network polling or do you poll mysql itself using mysql app pluggin for cacti.

I get the same behavior on 5.0.
phpmyadmin reports cumulative data for bytes received/sent.

I have not been able to thus far extract the data from which cacti pulls this data.
show status reflects the per session data.
