The Sent Items folder contains the maximum number of allowed items error message

A user is getting the following message in their Outlook 2010: "The Sent Items folder contains the maximum number of allowed items.  Archive or move some items to another folder.  Until space is available, sent messages will be sent to the Outbox folder but will not be sent."  The user has three items in their Sent Folder in the Mailbox is under 1 GB.

Are you on Exchange?
If yes that means the user has reached the allowed limit on their inbox, adjust it accordingly.

Your up against Critical folder Item limits and these limits are different depending on the version of Exchange. If your on Exchange 2003 then the critical folder item limit is 5000 items, if your user has reached this limit then the only option for you is to delete these items. Exchange 2010s limit is 100000 items.

just delete them, why do you want so many items in your sent items? I once met a user who filed everything in the deleted items folder. Your issue is as I suggessted, clear down the sent items and deleted items folder and the issue will go away, I promise :)

The Sent Items Folder has three e-mails.  That is why we do not understand this error.

their outlook profile must be corrupt, I would remove the profile, delete any OST if your using cache mode and re-create it. It's highy likely there are more items there but they are just not visible. Have you opened the mailbox in OWA?

The mailbox does open in OWA.  Maybe I will try with the a new profile if the problem continues.  I did a outlook /cleanprofile and so far it seems better.

The new profile seems to have taken care of the issue.
