CRM 2011 (online) link to Windows folders

Is there a way to add a link in an Account item which will open a Windows Explorer folder. For example, conceptually file://path/foldername would be good :)

Hi cwest1,

It is possible to open a windows exploerer folder but where exactly the folder is. You can open Windows Explorer folder on local computer or a network share that is accessible to you but you can't open a folder that is located on CRM 2011 Online Server.

What exactly you are trying to achieve?

Regards,
Chinmay.

From an Account view, click a link to open a local or shared folder which contains docs related to the account.

Hi cwest1,

You can add a button to the ribbon for Account Form and in path you could provide path to the folder Or you can have a link on the form itself[using URL format on Text field].

Regards,
Chinmay.

I'd prefer the latter. I entered a url in the website field before posting to E-E and discovered that it was limited to http or ftp addresses. I just tried a url in a text field, but it isn't recognized (as a url). What am I missing?

Here's my troubleshooting guide which should help others...

CRM 2011 Online.
Not connecting troubleshooting guide.

1.      Check if the “Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant” service is installed and running.

2.      Add these to Trusted Sites in IE: *.crm.dynamics.com and *.microsoft.com

3.      Delete any entries in Credential Manager that point to these domains.

4.      Run as Admin (from the console), w32time /resync. Setting the PC to the correct time is critical.

5.      Restart the Dynamics Configuration Wizard and try connecting again.

6.      If the PC is joined to a Domain it won’t be able to check the time locally unless Policy is configured appropriately. To work around this, run cmd.exe as Admin and enter the following at the console:

w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /update.
Restart the w32time service.

7.      It may also be necessary to enable local Admin permissions through Computer Management/Local Groups/ Administrators.
