Column Size limitation when using CTEs

I was using Kent's technique to concatenate row values (below link).

I have two values, which i have to concatenate. But i get this error.
SQL0433N Value "RULED OUT,UNSUBSTANTIATED" is too long. SQLSTATE=22001

Is there a way to use this technique and yet work around this column size issue?
Please help.

Never mind.. i found the answer in the same article  :)
I need to cast the concatenating string to a specific length, to avoid the error.
Thank you much for your attention.
