I have had to deal with this several times over the years, and though I cannot recall offhand the specific issues, I am sure it has to do with net framework being updated over the years, and being able to install different versions side by side.

Someone here correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think you need netFr v1 any longer.  What I usually do is go to the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall version 1.

If its not in there, then you can try downloading it manually, installing it, and then if the issue does not go away, uninstall it per the above, as its sure to be in the list then.
This avoids having to do a geeky search and destroy on the thing.

BTW, there is probably a more "proper" way for dealing with this, like seeking out the specified kb uninstaller 'route'.  Someone here with experience with that method may comment on that, so you may wish to wait a bit and see who shows ;^)

DoctorK12008--Go back to Windows Update and try to install that update again--by itself this time.  Very often, especially with .Net Framework updates, they do not work well when other updates are installed at the same time.

Thank you, DoctorK12008.
I hope this means you got it sorted out ;^)

Windows XP

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
