Hyper V not working correctly

I installed 2008 R2 on a Dell Optiplex 755, 2.33Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB Ram. This is not in a production environment, just used for learning purposes.

I installed the Hyper V role and it installed fine but there is a red X in Server Manager on Hyper V. Event properties show hypervisor driver required by the Virtual Machine Management service is not installed or is disabled. I have tried to follow these instructions, but I do not get those options.

On the first screen shot I do not have the Intel AMT Configuration option. This might be why I cannot enable Intel AMT. I have updated the BIOS and reinstalled the chipset drivers. I am lost at this point.

Thanks,
Mike

Upon futher investigation, this isn't looking very good unless I can find another board or find somebody who can re-write the BIOS code. My computer has the #2 on the side of the case.

What is the CPU type? The CPU must support Intel® VT-x and virtualization must be enabled in BIOS (default is disabled on most DELL systems and not all Core™2 Duo supports Intel® VT-x).

Thanks for the link. I had the Trusted Execution turned on. I turned it off, saved settings and shut down. It still didn't help. I am unable to turn on the Intel AMT feature in the BIOS because it is not listed. The only option I have going into the MEBx (ctrl-p at start up) is Intel ME Configuration and Change ME Password. I do not have the Intel AMT Option as shown in this link.

My processor is the E6550, which is on the list.

That could be why I get a message in Windows that the Intel AMT option is disabled. I do not have that option in the BIOS. From my understanding, this is an option enabled at point of sale. I did not know this at time of purchase.

This computer was purchased from the Dell Auction Site and had the #2 marking on the inside of the case. See link in first post. I think this is just a BIOS flash and trying to get an answer from Dell. According to Dell, there is only one part number for replacement boards, so that is why I suspect it is only re-flashing the BIOS instead of Dell having a second board just for that option. I could be wrong.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes. You need other motherboard with label #1 which supports AMT and vPro as described in:

That's the funny part. Dell says that they only have one part number for that model. If I was to purchase one (quoted $209.38), how would I know if that board would work? I have seen those boards online from $50.00 on up. I wouldn't know about those either.

Anyway, some good news. By turning off the Trusted Execution, I now have a yellow exclamation mark on Hyper V instead of the red X. I'm still waiting to hear from Dell to see what they will do, regarding if it just a BIOS flash or not.

I did read somewhere online about somebody that had this same problem and the only fix was to replace the motherboard.

Thanks,
Mike
