When you hear the tone or see the screen go white, hold the left alt key until the choices menu appears. If you press it too early it won't work.

Hold down the option key when booting. This will bring up the boot selector.

a USB drive of 4 GB will do the job?

Aaron TomoskySD-WAN SimplifiedCommented:
I believe so. It may be just over though as a DVD is 4.7gb.  I haven't done this personally.

mwiener1Commented:
You'll need an 8gb drive. Its JUST over the 4gb drives formatted size.
