Server 2008 R2 Roaming Profiles config

I am wanting a simple sanity check on how other folks do Roaming Profiles within Server 2008 R2 and whether you have experienced any issues.

I have two physical servers, both running 2008 R2, one Terminal Server, one DC/ File Server.  Users have roaming profiles enabled by Group Policy, I have all folders redirected to a "User Documents" share, and the users profile itself on a "User Profile" share.  In theory I believe this should work, but I may be mistaken.

There are issues with the Terminal Server, it may not be related but I want to eliminate this possibility with your assistance.  On occasion when a user logs in, the login process will hang on the "Loading User Profile" stage, the server locks up and the only way I have found to fix it is a hard restart.

Should I re-think roaming profiles, or look elsewhere to resolve the issues, any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Hello,
This a good place to start:
http://www.grouppolicy.biz/2010/08/best-practice-roaming-profiles-and-folder-redirection-a-k-a-user-virtualization/

If you want Roaming Profiles only on TS, then you can put your TS in a separate OU & only apply GPO to that.

As for your Server hanging, what errors are you getting in Event Viewer?

Can you Please clarify one thing, are you having Roaming Profile & Folder Redirection enabled only for TS or for the whole enviroment?
I mean, the user gets Roaming Profile & FR also when they go on their local machines or only on TS?

Currently Roaming Profile and Folder Redirection is for everyone.

Note. There are only 25 users in this organisation so I cannot see server load to be an issue as both servers are less than two years old

Do you want to have the same profile on TS or separate profiles for TS will work for you?
Also when you restart the TS what do you see in Event Viewer?

I have been thinking about this, and I am in two mindsets.  Currently all users are working on Windows 7, with Aero enabled so it is nice and pretty for the End Users.  The organisation is on an ADSL connection 15Mb down 1Mb up.  TS over ADSL with Aero is sluggish so the experience is bad, however the benefits of having users custom settings saved and minimal downtime to move users are enticing.  Do you recommend Roaming User Profiles?

As for errors, I get "The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client"

followed by "The Terminal Server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client, Client IP ....."

Then lots of "A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the * service"

Seems you are having slow link issue. See below:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/227260

Unless you have some specific need, I would keep two profiles separated.
Let know how it goes....

Can you please do Clean Boot of the Server.
What I have seen is that it might be because of some Third Party software, just to isolate please do so & see the result.

On another note what is the Anti Virus you are using?

I just read your question & as for to answer the Roaming Profiles, on a TS you use it when you have a Farm. For a single server environment, I don't see any need to do so.

If your users are changing the machines being Laptop or Desktop then it makes sense.

Please tell if this makes sense?

Your issue of Server hanging is totally different story.

I have decided to redo Roaming Profiles as it was not doing what I wanted, now users will only have My Documents redirected and clients will be educated on proper use.
