Just after boot, screen goes blank on 13" MBP

The machine seems to boot as normal but just before the login window should display the screen goes blank. The machine then seems to go into sleep mode. Have already tried "safe boot" by holding the SHIFT key during boot, the same thing seems to happen.

Is it working in safe mode?
    It happens all the time?
    Which version of windows?
While blank screen, what happens if you press CRTL+ALT+DEL?

SOLVED. this is a strange one! The MBP was sitting on top of another MBP of the same size. When i removed it and placed it on the desk it worked fine!
