VMWare Workstation 8 "connect to a remote  server" plugin/install?

I just installed VMWare Workstation 8. Is there a way to have a plugin or a seperate install for the "connect to a remote server" function?

It 's kind of stupid to install a full workstation (several 100 MB) just to connect to a remote VMWare Workstation, hence this question.

As far as I know, as remote server is a vmware esx(i) server meant and no additional workstation (client).

The idea is to move virtual machines to/from the server to run them on workstation/vmware server.

You could use (under windows) remote desktop though to connect to the remote workstation and run workstation remotely.

    Accepted Solution

In this version of Workstation, you are no longer constrained to working only with virtual machines that your computer has enough power to run. You can use the new Connect to Server feature to connect to remote hosts running Workstation, ESX 4.x and later, and VMware vCenter Server.

As said, use remote desktop to access the remote virtual machines running under vmware workstation.

Download the VMware vSphere Client 5.0 from VMware, and use this to Connect to VMware Workstation 8.0, Shared VMs Enabled, and you can use the VMware vSphere Client 5.0 to Create and Run VMs, and also Open Consoles Full Screen.

No need to install VMware Workstation 8.0 on any other PC.
