Best Patch Management Software...

I'm looking for a server based, patch management software app that handles all windows updates / security and 3rd party security patching with minimal effort.

The patch management product we use absolutely blows.  Lots of interaction needed just to patch a few machines and lots of rescans.

Anyone using software like this with really good results.  Also, looking for one that doesn't involve installing a client app on a remote machine first.  Thanks a lot.

We use SCCM for patch management. Once setup it works very well. To many third party applications we installed SCUP which is another free tool from Microsoft. We also bought a license for SCUPDates  from Shavlik and it is great for patching everything from Java to iTunes.

The above setup was a bit complicated to setup and does require an agent on clients. You may want to look into using WSUS since you only need a GPO that points clients to the server. Then for third party applications check out Ninite www.ninite.com

ASKER

The issue being that WSUS automatic updating is turned off from the client side as we need to control some of the patches being deployed.  Is SCCM - System Center Manager or another?
it is that

System Center Configuration Manager
