HP P400 RAID Card not seeing a new disk in RAID pack
Hi,
We have a issue with a HP P400 RAID card.
This came up with an error saying the desk in bay 3 had "Status Failed, Replace Disk". We have done this and still it says its failed with a brand new disk. We have tried to reseat the disk and even rebooted the server but still no joy.
Does anyone have knowledge if any issues like this please.

Had this issue a lot of times
Update P400 firmware controller is the very 1st step, and it might bring your new disk to green status again.

Perhaps the replacement disk is bad? It happens.
It could be the disk then. Try talking to Vendor.
Sorry I thought you have already updated the firmware and still had issues. please ignore my previous update and update Flash.

Hi,
I gather this RAID card should it be faulty and need replacing save the RAID configs on the Drives so we can copy back to the new replacement card?
Thanks

The best way to get upgrades and drivers for a Smart array is HP Website
Smart Array P400 Drivers & Firmwares
You can safely change your P400 for a new one, or even a more recent one, as Raid informations are both stored in Smart NVRAM AND on the disks. Fully compatible. No risk

PS: No configuration needed, as soon as disks are inserted, and if Card is brand new, it will detect the RAID and ask you to save changes on 1st server boot.
If card is not new, I suggest you first remove all your disks from the bay(s) and boot on smartstart CD
Select System Erase to erase Smart Array card NVRAM and make it forget any old configuration.

Hi All,
We have replaced the drive again and this controller now shows the physical drive is OK. However the logical drive is still degraded.
Are there any additional process's we need to take to rebuild this RAID or is it now a controller issue as the firmware is also up to date.
Thanks

What is the psot error given by Smart array at Server Boot process ? (should be 4 digits)
When you open HP ACU, you will get info about your logical drives : Yellow is just a warning and your array is probably rebuilding the raid. Red is not good at all.

The disk was DOA.
1. Make sure RAID Flash is running its latest version and your driver is compatible.
2. Check if your discs are properly configured, fully initialised and showing ready from the RAID Management.
