On Vista, I'm connecting to a remote computer using Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection 6.0.6002.  I'm using this RD software because I need to connect via a TS Gateway and it seems to be the only RD software that can do this.  However, I have to sounds from the remote computer.  Is there a way to enable Sound?

I do have "Bring to this Computer" enabled for Remote computer sound.  Sound is turned up on the remote computer.  The remote computer is MS Windows Server 2003.

Thanks but I don't have a Terminal Services Configuration option in admin tools.  I did select to install this but maybe I selected the wrong licensing type since there are several options.  I have only Terminal Server Licensing and Terminal Services Manager.

I do have the Microsoft RDP Audio Driver enabled in the Sound options.  But now when I try to play any sound, I get this error:

Windows cannot play xxx.wav file. It may be damaged or may not be a valid sound file.  Replace the file and try again.

The sound files are fine.  Also, under the volume tab, Device volume has a red circle with a slash through it.  It is also always muted.  But regular volume is not.  I no longer have any other audio devices to choose from except RDP Audio Device.

Oh in that case it could be media player issue. we need to go through isolation process - first try using any windows media player compatible file. MP3?

Is the sound set to play from the remote computer to the one you are using? My example is from a PC to a Mac, but the setting would still apply.

After following this http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/windows-server-i-donot-hear-sound-over-rdp/, I was able to go through the steps mentioned in the first post.  Now under Sound, device volume doesn't have a red circle and is not muted.  But still no sound is coming to the client.  I do have it set to bring local sound to this computer.

Sweet!  After finding that RD was listed in the client machine's audio mixer, I unmuted and sound plays.  Thanks.

Does sound play on the originating computer? If it doesn't work there ,it is not going to work via remote.
